The 7th grade Grizzlies travelled all the way to Lebanon Oregon to take on the Warriors for the final game of the season.  This was by far the team’s biggest challenge of the Grizzlies 7th grade season.  Nonetheless the Grizzlies were able to overcome 6 offensive turn overs and still defeat the Lebanon Warriors 30-21.  Our Offensive leader and QB Max Saltmarsh (Dun) was able to throw and connect with Austin Weeks (Pat) for a touchdowns pass in the team’s first drive of the game.  Tariku Rue (Dun) added points to the score board by getting in the end zone on two different rushes.  Tariku rushed for about 140 yards in the game and also scored 3 PAT’s for 6 points.  Tariku also returned a kick return for an exciting touchdown in the final seconds of the game BUT it was called back due to a penalty.  The last touchdown of the game was punched in by Brandon Birney (Dun), who took over for the injured Austin Rapp (Dun).  Brandon had over 50 yards rushing as well in last nights game.    The Grizzly defense faced their stiffest offensive challenge of the season BUT they were able to come through with flying colors.  Mason Yochum (Dun) and Coleman Searcy (Dun) was the defensive key to our success.  The two ends set our defensive edges and made several key tackles especially in the second half.  Landon Miller (Pat) set the tone early in the game by stripping and recovering a Warrior fumble allowing the Grizzlies to score first in the game.  Michael Cross (Dun) also stepped up, with a clutch interception in the second half to keep the momentum with the Grizzlies going.  Tyler Mishler (Dun) came up huge on a Warriors special team turnover.  All in all the Grizzlies made the coaches and their schools proud with their coach ability and toughness throughout the football season.  The Grizzly players would like to thank all the schools administrators, teachers, parents and especially their fans for their endless support in 2017 7th Grade Football season.  This season the 7th Grade Grizzlies were able to go 7 & “O”, un-defeated, outscoring their opponents 208 to 60.  Way to Go Grizzlies!!!

Coach Corey Medeiros

The 7th grade Grizzlies hosted the second home game of the season.  Grizzlies was able to one up on the  mighty Cascade Tigers 24-0.  The offense was led by our QB and offensive leader Max Saltmarsh (Dun).  Max was able to connect with Austin Rapp (Dun) for two touchdowns both rushing right up the middle.  Austin Rapp rushed for 60 yards against a big defense.  Brandon Birney (Dun) had about 45 yards rushing as well.  On the receiving side, Tariku Rue (Dun) had about 65 yards receiving, Preston Moniz (Dun), Tyler Mishler (Dun) and Mason Yochum (Dun) both had about 20 yards receiving each.  Also on the scoring side, was the 3 PAT’s for 6 points by Tariku Rue. The Grizzly defense pitched another shutout again yesterday.  It was a solid all around effort by many members of the Grizzly defense.  Tariku Rue (Dun) had the big defensive play of the day with a pick six for a Grizzly touchdown in the first half to break the game open. Coleman Searcy(Dun) and Mason Yochum (Dun) made several big plays on the edges.  Austin Weeks (Pat), Adyn Muller(Pat) and Mickey Johnson (Pat) plugged up the middle.  Shutting a team out usually means that everybody did their job and that was definitely the case for the Grizzlies last night.  Next week Grizzlies are on the road for their last game of the season taking on Lebanon Middle School.  Go Grizzlies!!!

Wrestlers!  Anyone interested in wrestling this year on the McMinnville Middle School team, there will be a brief meeting today during all 3 lunches.  The wrestling team is open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th graders.  Mr. Wilson, the coach will be here to talk about the team and answer any questions that you may have.  Last year the wrestling team had over 30 members on the team, including several members from Duniway.    Mr. Wilson is excited to see several of you at lunch today!

Mr. Holmes

The 8th grade volleyball team had a great tournament against tough opponents over the weekend, and put up a scrappy performance to hang in until the end of multiple games and matches.   While they lost a few close ones, the team has never fought harder or played better.   Outstanding players included Ava Larson, Megan Sebree, Rachel Alexander and Chloe Cockerham with hustle passing and digging.   Rosy Castellanos, Neveah Garza, and Hayden Cullver came off the bench and helped with some great serves at clutch moments, but as always, the serving was led by Chandler "the Ace" Higginbotham.   Laura Barton and Bailey Olson had some beautiful blocks while Gracie Maybe and Hadleigh Heller set for kills.     Don't miss Wednesday's final match against North Marion at 4:00...See you there!

Mr. Hurl

The Grizzly defense pitched a near shutout again yesterday.  They harassed the Wildcat offense all game and created four turnovers as well as several tackles for loss.  Tyler Misheler(Dun) and Brandon Birney (Dun) each had a interception.  Tariku Rue (Dun) had a pick 6 as he returned the interception 60 yards for a Grizzly touchdown.  Preston Moniz (Dun) recovered a fumble for the Grizzlies too.  The Tackling star was Mason Yochum (Dun) who had several tackles to keep the Wildcat offense from moving the ball the entire game.  Other stalwarts on defense included Bryce Schneider (Pat), Austin Weeks (Pat), Mickey Johnson (Pat) and Cameron Anderson (Pat).  Next week Grizzlies are at home vs. Cascade Middle School.  We look forward to seeing our fans on October 25th, 2017 at Patton MS when the Grizzlies host the Tigers of Cascade Middle School.  Go Grizzlies!!!
