The Grizzly 8th grade football team went up against a good Titan football team this past Tuesday in Forest Grove.  Behind good Offensive line play the Grizzlies were able to comfortably pull out a win against the Titans of Niel Armstrong Middle School. Behind a strong run game, Austin Rapp rushed for close to 100 yards and a couple touchdowns and Tariku Rue who scored a touchdown in his first game back from injury. Grizzlies won 20-0.  The Grizzly defense had a great day as they pitched a shutout. Jesse Jones led the way with 2 big sacks. Mason Yochum and Coleman Searcy got in on the action as well with one sack each. The middle of the Bears D was stout as they controlled the running game. Brandon Bomberger, Austin Weeks, Mickey Johnson, and Brandon Birney made several tackles.  Finally, Tariku Rue paced the secondary with two interceptions. Great job Grizzly defense. Please come out and support the Grizzly 8th Grade football team as they take on a good Lacreole team from Dallas next Wednesday at 4:00pm here at Duniway Middle School. Go Grizzlies.

The 8th grade McMinnville Grizzlies prevailed again against the Tigers of Cascade Middle school. The Grizzlies scored 44 more points in a high scoring battle against Cascade Junior High winning 44-33. The Grizzlies behind another great offensive line performance was led by Austin Rapp who rushed for over 120 yards and 3 touchdowns, Brandon Birney with a TD and 60 yards rushing and Todd Holbrooke who added a couple big runs. Tyler Mishler had a TD and with couple big receptions and Yochum caught a nice Slant for about 15 yards from Quarterbacks Max Saltmarsh and Brandon Bomberger.  The Grizzly D battled tough all game as they took on a solid Cascade offense. Standouts for the Bears started with Jesse Jones. Jesse had multiple sacks to fire up the D. Adyn Mueller also got in on the action with a sack as did Coleman Searcy, Mickey Johnson and Brandon Bomberger. Also, Alex Denman came up with a big interception as well right before the end of the first half. Finally, Max Saltmarsh and Coleman Searcy recovered fumbles with Searcy taking it back for a big TD. Last night the 8th grade teams played 6 close games against a tough Neil Armstrong team.  In the first match, the 8th grade B-team won in three matches, two of them decided by 2 points.   They were led by the tough back row play of Melanie Peterson, the hitting and passing of Kristina Steeves, and the all around play of Elizabeth Flynn.   The A-team lost 3 tough games but were in every one of them till the very end. They were led by the ferocious back row play of Aryana Lewis, the brilliant setting and hustle of team captain, Bella Peralta, and the all around hustle passing and hitting of Mikalyn Freeman, Danielle Law, and Bella Hawkins.   One of the biggest highlights was Madison Martinez who came up from the B-team to play middle blocker with fire. It was an exceptional match. Come out tomorrow to watch your Dragons play cross-town rival Patton.

Due to a great performance buy the entire offensive line, the Grizzlies were able to score 52 points in the first half winning Wednesdays game against a really good Talmadge team, 52-19. The Grizzlies offensive line put it all together, along with the rest of the team to put up nearly 400 yards of offense. QB Max Saltmarsh threw for 4 TD's and almost 200 yards. QB Brandon Bomberger threw for over 100 yards and had a beautiful 40 yard TD pass to Tight End Austin Weeks. Mickey Johnson caught a TD Pass from Saltmarsh in the Flats and rumbled 15 yards for a TD, and Tyler Mishler was a dangerous weapon all day catching multiple passes and breaking multiple tackles, one for a 25 yard Touchdown. Todd Holbrook stepped in for an injured Tareku Rue and had a career game scoring 2 touchdowns and finishing with close to 200 all-purpose yards, including a 95 yard screen pass from Max Saltmarsh. Austin Rapp led the stable of running backs against a stout Cougar defense and rushed again for over 100 yards and scored one of his 2 touchdowns on a 50 yard toss where he made multiple tacklers miss and showed off his speed out running the defenders to the end zone. When asked about the run Rapp stated, " the O-line blocked great all day ". Brandon Birney got in on the action with a highlight reel, tackle breaking 20 yard run. Defensively the Grizzly’s defense had an inconsistent first half yielding a few long runs for touchdowns.  However, they put the clamps down in the 2nd half to shutout the Cougars. Several players had sacks including Mickey Johnson, Coleman Searcy, Austin Rapp, Mason Yochum, Jesse Jones, Brandon Bomberger, and Adyn Mueller. Brandon Bomberger also recovered a fumble. On top of that, Alexis Llamas and Isaiah Donohue made some nice plays in the Grizzly secondary. In the trenches, TJ Lake, Cameron Anderson, and Austin Weeks held strong against a tough running back for Central. All in all, the Grizzlies played with great character, discipline, and toughness. The Grizzlies has a by this week BUT tune in next week Tuesday, Oct. 9th, when the Grizzlies travel to Turner, Oregon to take on the Tigers of Cascade Middle School. Please come out and support the Grizzlies.
