7th grade volleyball

The 7th grade strongly defeated Patton last night in both matches to end the season.  These girls made great growth as individuals, players, and athletes this season. Rhiannon Root kept up her serving streak with 10 great serves in a row.  Having 5 or more serves in a row were: Abby Andrew, Kaylee Dinger, Lily Crowe, and Brooklyn Rapp. Great supporting play with bumps, sets, and spikes were Scout Jones, Priscilla Flores, Marley Howard, Delaney Pavelek, Joslin Sommers, Issy Smith, and Alyx Arritola.  These girls were great and had an amazing season! The Grizzly Offense looked good moving the ball at will. Bryce Wilson (Dun) moved the ball up and down the field rushing for over 200 yards and 4 touchdowns. The Grizzlies added a fifth touchdown to the scoreboard when Kane Sullivan (Dun) hit Brayden Mix (Dun) on a nice hitch route for a 10 Yard touchdown. Alex Keleher (Pat) helped the offense out with great blocking and a nice 40 yard scamper up the sideline to set up Bryce on one of his touchdowns. Riley Donahoe (Pat) also did a nice job of rushing the ball. Finally, games are won and loss on the line. Nice job of opening gaps and controlling the line of scrimmage by Christian Pastrano (Dun), Andres Rivera (Dun), Omar Mendoza (Dun), Zack Yslas (Dun) and Owen Boykin (Dun). After this 30-13 victory, the Grizzlies move to 3-1 and look forward to next week’s game at Lacreole.  Defensively this week against the Sweet Home Huskies, the McMinnville Grizzlies just dominated at defense. Linebackers Justice (Pat) and Asay (Dun) each recorded several tackles and coordinated defensive schemes for the game. Outside plays were shut down by Keleher (Pat) and Long (Dun) who combined over 12 tackles many of which were for loss. The ground game had little traction with the Grizzlies' defensive linemen Boykin (Dun) and Snyder (Pat) each made 7+ tackles all while keeping constant pressure on the Quarterback. Though passing wasn't much of a problem for the Grizzlies thanks to Bergen (Dun) and Schoof (Dun) who were key in keeping the Tigers' to fewer than 3 pass completions. After this 30-13 victory, the Grizzlies move to 3-1 and look forward to next week’s game at Lacreole. Way to go Grizzlies!!

7th grade girls volleyball

The 7th grade girls had two great matches against LaCreole Middle School in Dallas last night.  The first match had series of 7 or more fantastic serves by Joslin Sommers and over double that by Brooklyn Rapp. The second match having 4 or more in a series of great serves were Priscilla Flores and Alyx Arritola.  Great support and team play during both matches by: Scout Jones, Lily Crowe, Kaylee Dinger, Rhiannon Root, Delaney Pavelek, Marley Howard, Issy Smith, and Abby Andrew. Their hard work is really paying off! Come out tomorrow night and cheer them on against Patton here on our home court!  Games start at 4:00 with the 7th grade in the B gym and the 8th grade in the A gym.

Come and support the 8th grade football team at tomorrow's first home game against Sweet Home. Game starts at 4 pm on the Duniway field. Hope to see you there!

David Holmes

Last night the Duniway volleyball team faced a tough opponent at LaCreole.  The B-team came up with a big win in the first match, sweeping all three games.   They were led by the tough serving of Lillie Locke, Sophia Potter and Lilliana Najar.   Illie Preliwitz and Jazalyn Negrete added some tough net play and spiking to bring this team the victory.    The A-team, down a couple of key players, still played a tough match. Kami Maynard had the match of her life, diving for every ball, and playing excellent defense.  Kaiya Wilkins had a great all around game, and Jessalyn Bamba contributed some tough passing.

Way to go 7th grade girls volleyball!

Mrs. Asuncion-Gibson

Yesterday afternoon the Duniway 8th graders beat Forest Grove 18-14.  Duniway led 6-0 after Bo McLaughlin connected with Sebastian Carillo on a 10 yard touchdown pass in the 1st quarter.   In the 2nd quarter Mitchel Taylor scampered in on a 8 yard touchdown run to out McMinnville up 12-0. After a later 2nd quarter touchdown by Forest grove, Nick Gibson took a hand off 49 yards down to the one yard line and on the next play finished off the drive with a 1 yard touchdown run.  Forest grove kept the game close late with a touchdown and recovered onside kick but with a minute left in the game on 3rd and long Cody Miller got a interception to seal the game.....

Corey Medeiros

The 7th grade Grizzlies played their first game of the season against the Warriors of Lebanon Oregon.  This was a huge battle for the Grizzlies 7th in their first game of the season. Nonetheless the Grizzlies were able to overcome a late Warrior surge and defeat the Lebanon Warriors 28-26.  Our Offensive leader and QB, Kane Sullivan (Dun), was able to open the initial drive from our own 30 yard line to the far end zone for the first touchdown of the season. Having a huge game was Bryce Wilson (Dun) had a great game for the Grizzlies.  Bryce rushed for approximately 150 yards in the game and was able to score twice. Bryce also cleared the upright for a PAT as well. Also getting in the end zone was both Brayden Mix (Dun) and Tyler Franks (Pat) from passes from Kane Sullivan. Helping huge in leading the way for our backs was our fearless full-back Nash Opitz (Dun).  Special props goes out to our offensive lineman, Eboney Snyder (Pat), Alejandro Reyes (Dun), Spencer Laridon (Pat), Landon Fay (Pat), Omar Mendoza (Dun) and Alexander Keleher (Pat). Defensively the Grizzlies played outstanding game yesterday. They were stifling, energetic and fast. The Grizzly defense causing Lebanon to cough up the ball 6 times- Alex Keleher (Pat), Christian Pastrano(Dun), Landon Fay(Pat), Owen Boykin(Dun) and Kaleb Long(Dun) each recovered a fumble.  The Grizzlies were able to also pull off one interception by Austin Schoof (Dun). Our corners Mekhi Bergen (Dun) & Seth Anderson(Dun) shut down Lebanon passing Offense. The highlight of the game was a huge monstrous tackle by Alet Keleher (Pat) for a safety. Those 2 points were the difference maker in winning the game. Mark your calendars for next week Wednesday the Grizzlies host the Vikings of Stayton here at the Patton Dome. Go Grizzlies.

The Concert Choir had a very chilly performance last Friday outside of Walmart for the YCAP Stuff The Bus Fundraiser/food and toy drive. The choir did an amazing job of drawing attention to the YCAP donation boxes. They were so good, that a gentleman offered to donate $100 if the choir were to sing his wife "Happy Birthday"! So without hesitation, we sang Happy Birthday and many more tunes. After our performance we enjoyed some fantastic hot chocolate donated to the choir from Leeanne's Coffee! Thanks Leeanne and thank you YCAP for the invitation to be apart of your worthwhile event!
