(Spanish) In February 2022, Duniway Middle School officially launched the AVID program for its eighth grade class.
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) intends to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society by providing academic instruction and support to prepare students for success in rigorous high school courses and beyond.
AVID also aims to motivate and equip students to see themselves as successful college-bound and college-eligible students, and develop leadership skills and skills of successful students.
AVID parents are involved and encourage their students to achieve academically and will support the goals and requirements of the AVID program.
Students who qualify for AVID:
Have both the potential and desire to attend a 4-year college, university, or trade school;
Have a 2.0 GPA or higher;
Have a good attendance record;
Demonstrate excellent work ethic and good classroom behavior;
Are from families historically underserved in colleges and universities and first generation college students;
Would like to get support in their present courses and take advanced courses in high school with tutoring in middle school.
